Genetic Screening of Halothane Gene on Selected Philippine Native Pig Herds

نویسندگان

چکیده

The establishment of nucleus herds (NHs) Native Pigs (NPs) at various R&D stations in the Philippines is currently being undertaken for food security and genetic conservation advocacy. Marker-assisted selection (MAS) utilized to identify individuals carrying favorable alleles genes associated with production traits screen out defects (GD) breeding purposes. Porcine Stress Syndrome (PSS) caused by a mutation Halothane (HAL) gene GD frequently found commercial breeds that when expressed, causes pale, soft, exudative (PSE) meat. PSE inferior quality meat undesirable market causing economic losses swine industry. Thus, this study was conducted HAL through mutagenically separated-polymerase chain reaction (MSPCR) selected NP assessed its repeatability local breeds. Results showed 577 screened individuals, 543 (94.11%) were normal (NN), 0 (0%) homozygous mutant (nn) 34 (5.89%) heterozygous carriers (Nn). Therefore, optimized PSS screening protocol using MSPCR also applicable As such, availability tests could be useful improving Philippine NPs inhibiting or eliminating incidence within herd.

Longitudinal study on transmission of MRSA CC398 within pig herds

UNLABELLED ABSBACKGROUND: Since the detection of MRSA CC398 in pigs in 2004, it has emerged in livestock worldwide. MRSA CC398 has been found in people in contact with livestock and thus has become a public health issue. Data from a large-scale longitudinal study in two Danish and four Dutch pig herds were used to quantify MRSA CC398 transmission rates within pig herds and to identify factors a...

Optimized management of genetic variability in selected pig populations.

Controlling the increase of coancestry and inbreeding coefficients in selected populations is made possible through calculation of the optimal contributions allowed to breeding animals, given the current situation with regard to genetic diversity, and further, through optimal design of matings. The potential of such an approach for pig breeding was tested by retrospective optimization on the Fr...

Epidemiological investigations on Lawsonia intracellularis infections in pig herds

Objective: A serological screening study was carried out to determine the prevalence of Lawsonia (L.) intracellularis infections in German pig herds. Additionally a cross-sectional study of eight farrow-to-finish herds which was designed to investigate the dynamics of seroconversion. In addition, bacteriological tests were carried out on faec-al and intestinal samples from herds with diarrhoea ...

Genetic polymorphism and expression analysis of cMBL gene in Iranian native and commercial chickens

The aims of this study were to compare the promoter sequence of the mannose-binding lectin (cMBL) gene in Iranian native and commercial chicken strains; as well as to compare the cMBL gene expression in crossbred and inbred chickens. In total 79 native (Western Azerbaijan native fowls, WANF) and 49 commercial (Arian Commercial Strain, ACS) birds were reared as parents under same management prac...

Breeding replacement gilts for organic pig herds.

In this study, breeding structures and commercial sow lines were evaluated by economic and genetic simulation studies for their suitability to provide the Dutch organic pig sector with replacement gilts. Sow and litter performance from over 2000 crossbred sows from 2006 to 2007 were collected on 11 to 14 Dutch organic pig herds, respectively, and compared with conventional herds. Results showed...
